Soft Stir
Soft Stir is an independent, Sydney-based publication examining art, music, culture, and philosophy through the eyes of emerging Australian creatives. Founded in 2019, our goal is to strengthen cultural and creative networks in the Australian community, while providing opportunities for cross-disciplinary creative expression and topical critique.
We have three issues in circulation; ‘Stories of Home’, ‘Stories of Healing’ and our recently launched ‘Stories of Collision’ – fresh off the press. Each is curated with a wide range of voices in the worlds of art, design, and literature, from poets, storytellers, musicians, photographers, illustrators and more, with a keen focus on people from culturally diverse backgrounds and the LGBTQIA+ community.
Every issue is as much a literary and cultural publication as it is a design object: each story pairs with a visual artistic response, harnessing bespoke design, typefaces, and layouts to pay homage to the content and theme. Contributors to Soft Stir include Jazz Money, Bhenji Ra, Amrita Hepi, Genesis Owusu, Eda Gunaydin, Dean Cross, Jacquie Meng, Justine Youssef, Studio MIMU, Victoria Pham, Ayebatonye Abrakasa, Dakota Feirer, Garden Reflexxx, Tilly Lawless, Tiarna Herczeg, Michael Sun, Mikaela Stafford, Other Matter, Lucia Tường Vy Nguyễn, and many more.
